AstroChuck: A Day in the Life

  • Tomorrow I'll probably save the world but sadly this day isn't nearly as exciting.
  • 3.58: Awakened by a bad headache. Ibuprofen and a quick pee as I am up anyway. Back to bed @ 4:02.
  • 6.08: Get up. Brush teeth, BM, then shower and shave.
  • 6.28: Blow dry hair, put on postal monkey suit and contact lenses.
  • 6.33: Turn off house alarm then let Juno (our dog) out of her crate and then outside to do her thing.
  • 6.37: Grab paper from porch. Take my vitamin then toast and veggie sausage for breakfast as I scan the paper.
  • 6.44: Kiss Parrothead and the parakeet goodbye then out the door.
  • 6.49: Starbuck's. Tall nonfat dark cherry mocha, extra hot, no whip. Hoping caffeine will help kill my headache.
  • 6.56: On my way. NPR through news then back and forth between that and the Stern show.
  • 7.21: Arrive @ 5930 S. Land Park Dr. (my place of employ). Check email on my iPhone. Then quick check on Fluther and Facebook. Headache has subsided somewhat.
  • 7.30: The fun begins!
  • 9.29: Mail's all been cased and now I've pulled it all down. Hitting the streets.
  • 11.35: Back from the street already as I'm on a work restriction that limits me to two hours walking due to spraining my ankle nine days earlier.
  • 12.03: A little late for my physical therapy appointment.
  • 12.06: Just began my five minutes on the bike. Piece of cake.
  • 12.11: Now about to start foot exercises followed by "The Ice Boot" and electric current.
  • 12.58: Done with torture. Limping more now than when I walked in. Now waiting to see doctor. Hopefully she will clear me for full duty.
  • 2.09: Hooray! Released from limited duty purgatory. Now back to da office. No lunch break today so I'll get off work at...
  • 3.31: Freedom!
  • 3.53: Drop off prescription for some happy pills. 20 minute wait? I don't think so. I'll just pick them up tomorrow.
  • 4.10: Pick up Parakeet (Henceforth to be referred to as Halle) from CDI (daycare).
  • 4.18: Home. Now to let Juno inside, change clothes, and then check the mail (God bless the USPS).
  • 4.45: Parrothead (henceforth to be referred to as Becky) arrives home.
  • 5.02: Leave for my folks' house for dinner and some work around their house.

  • 6.48: Goodbye, Mimi! Nice knowin' ya. Now off to Sears for my dad. (Stuff he needs there apparently.)
  • 7.08: Goodbye, Mr. Roebuck!
  • 7.52: Just walked into folk's house. Time to get to work. Ooh. The Giants game is on TV!
  • 9.56: Giants game just ended (they beat the Cardinals), my work for them is done, and we're finally leaving for home.
  • 10.12: Quick run into the supermarket for a few needed items. Becky and Halle are staying in the car.
  • 10.25: Goodbye, Supermarket!
  • 10.31: Home again, home again, jiggity jig.
  • 10.32: Taking Juno for a quick mini walk.
  • 10.39: Done with walkies.

  • 10.49: Cleaning the cats' litter boxes. Joy!
  • 10.53: Brush teeth and get ready for bed.
  • 11.01: Finally in my green recliner. Becky is watching "Everybody Hates Chris" on Nick-At-Nite again (Something she watches ad nauseum even though she owns all four seasons on DVD). Reading the paper.
  • 11.31: Becky and I are going to hit the sheets now. Juno goes in her crate. Final pee of the day then set house alarm.
  • 11.35: In bed reading "Ancient Rome On 5 Denari a Day" and doing a little evening Fluthering as Becky is getting ready for bed. (Damn, she takes forever!)
  • 11.58: I'm spent. Lights out. Goodnight, Moon.

Judochop: A Day in the Life

(Going with a little different format this week)

It all starts about 7:30am for me. After a refreshing four to five hours of sleep. Early in the week I am afraid there is nothing much exciting to tell. I am a pretty regular guy. I drive my daughter to school, usually stop for Chai on the way back and then come home to run the dogs and feed them. I have two furry friends. The mid morning consists of news and internet surfing. As of February 12th. my work programs funding ran out and I’ve found myself mostly unemployed. The afternoon makes for a nice bike ride until school’s out. Then it’s the pick up and grocery for dinner stuffs. A little bit of homework and then a shower and then some Xbox360 online to bloody some fools. That I guess would sum up the early part of my week. The rest of the week consists of my part-time job of bartending at a friends sweet little rock-n-roll strip club. I handle the infusions and the cocktail menu there. It’s good music and a cool mix of people. Fridays consist of meetings, I consult for local bars for events and cocktail menus. Man, after writing it all down I am realizing that I am a pretty boring guy. Ha! Really though, everyday is a good mix of fun, love, anger and speculation. I enjoy lowbrow art, music, bikes and history. My friends and daughter keep me busy. When the sun is out I am not inside.

EmpressPixie: A Day in the Life

  • 7.00am: Wake up, realize I forgot to turn my alarm on last night. Panic briefly. See the time, relax and reach for my computer. Start reading email.
  • 7.30am: My alarm goes off. Stop reading email because my computer dies.
  • 7.45am: Get out of bed and get dressed.
  • 8.00am: Wonder if Connor is taking Rigel to school of it I need to take the bus. He is. I’ll catch a ride with them.
  • 8.05am: Paw through my perfume box. Today’s idea. Herbert West, since I’m pretending to be a mad scientist in my second class. Also grab Miller vs. State of California to show law professor.
  • 8.15am: Leave the house. We’re late which means I’ll get to class but I won’t be able to grab some tea before then.
  • 8.24am: Arrive at Business Law Ethics. Continue reading email.
  • 8.30am: Class begins.
  • 8.40am: We’re talking about West Virginia as a learning example. “... the West Virigina Supreme Court, which will never be confused with a court that has justice,...”
  • 10.10am: Get out of class 10 minutes early. Run downstairs to grab some Earl Grey with honey and a croissant.
  • 10.20am: Waiting for Groups and Teams in Organizations to start. Chatting with Daniel who got online sometime during BLE. Burned my tongue on my tea. Read more email.
  • 10.30am: Class begins. We’re talking about the Satera case again and team: management after the easy points of correction.
  • 10.58am: I wonder briefly if moderating is making me better at managing conflict. I’m very conflict averse in general and it forces me not to be. Scroll through some email.
  • 11.13am: We’ve started role-playing in class. I’m prepared to be Ira Lovas, the quiet guy, in the second round of role-play.
  • 11.53am: Realize halfway through the first round that I am: definitely going to be paired with Edan. Our role-play was hilariously on key because we played personalities that aligned with our own.
  • 12.20pm: Class is over. I make my way to the bus stop arriving just in time to run the last 20 yards or so and catch the bus.
  • 12.55pm: Change of clothes – put on long sleeves this morning which was actually comfortable then, but is truly miserable now. Sit down at the dining room table to work – my signal to others that I have serious work to do. Or at least to myself. Bring the pitcher of iced tea with me. Remind myself I have a metric ton of homework that I’ve procrastinated on and must be completed tonight.
  • 1.10pm: Continue to procrastinate. Read more email.
  • 1.20pm: Continue to procrastinate. I really have a ton of work to do too, sigh. Maybe I should make some coffee.
  • 1.40pm: Start working, but mostly just watch Bones and read email.
  • 4.20pm: Check the mail even though I already grabbed it. There are two packages. Deliver one to Connor, open the shoes I ordered yesterday. Spend several minutes telling everyone how impressed I am: that the shoes I ordered yesterday are here already. Seriously, that’s really impressive – I ordered them yesterday. Regular shipping. Here today.
  • 4.27pm: Start the several month bitching process of breaking in new shoes. Also, make more sweet iced tea.
  • 4.30pm: Get back to Bones and studying and email and vague chatting.
  • 5.22pm: Start craving iced tea but it is definitely not ready yet. Pout.
  • 6.45pm: Walked to the neighborhood deli to grab some dinner. Nice walk, not hot anymore. Got home and it was totally hot inside.
  • 7.10pm: Made a tomato sandwich. Consumed it. Got a glass of luke warm tea and iced it. Consumed that as well.
  • 10.24pm: Did I mention I was working on homework? Yes. I did – at 1.40. Well, I’ve finished two assignments and am: moving on to the grand finale. I have to write a research paper by, um, tomorrow at 6.30pm.
  • 12.46am: Moved from the kitchen table to my bedroom to keep working on my paper. Moving to bed counts as the end of my day – well known fact, once I’m in it, I’ll fall asleep in about two seconds. Shock anyone I’m still chatting with by being awake. If I didn’t have a ton of homework due tomorrow, I’d’ve been asleep hours ago.

Dr_C: A Day in the Life

  • 5.45am: Bruno whines in my ear so i get up and let him outsider to do his Business. Turn on the coffee maker and go upstairs for a few more minutes of sleep.
  • 6.15: Shower time! Dreading today since I have to quit my ER shift. I love Tuesdays because of these shifts… but I need to have at least one day off a week…. I’m wearing myself ragged!
  • 6.25: Turn on the news and go online to check e-mail and fluther. Nothing out of the ordinary or especially interesting today.
  • 7.02: The beautiful and talented Mrs. C is here to drive me to work. I love this woman.
  • 7.40: Greeted at the door by hot receptionist who tells me her sister is doing much better and thanks me for seeing her the week before. ER empty.
  • 8.00: Rounds. Full house today… a lot of patients will be released today so I’m thinking it might be an uneventful shift. This is a good thing as I didn’t get much sleep last night… I was in chat till I don’t know when. First patient of the day. Hooray for stitching!
  • 9.45: Yolanda brings my breakfast up from the kitchen. She spoils me. Asks If I can take a look at her son’s GF’s daughter who took a bad spill off her bike a few days earlier. I said I’d take a look when she got there.
  • 10.30: Call down to admin and ask If I can have a few minutes with the boss later today. It’s not something I’m looking forward to but there’s no turning back now. He’s with patients So I’ll have to wait a while. Another patient arrives. It never ceases to amaze me how people that eat spicy foods at every meal, drink a gallon of coffee a day, smoke and drink can’t understand why their heartburn doesn’t get better! “It’s like the pills don’t even work!!!” (inner face-palm).
  • 10.55: Go on fluther chat for a while. I love this place and can’t stay away. Some of my favorites are here right now. It’s always a good time. E-mail Mrs C something about Ricky Martin coming out of the closet.. twice. She bitches me out and threatens not to come pick me up after my shift… twice. It’s a little funny I think.
  • 11.45: Saw a few more patients and got called into boss’s office. He asks what’s wrong. I explain how much I love working there, but the test prep courses ar taking up the other 6 days of the week and I can’t keep up the pace anymore. I give him some lame excuse about the people at test prep asking me to come in for more hours… So he asks If I want to quit. I say I don’t want to but I have to. He does not accept my resignation and instead tells me I’ve become an invaluable part of the staff and says he’d rather give me a couple of months off and hire someone to fill in on a temp basis. He wants me back in July. I agree and leave feeling pretty good about myself.
  • 1.15: FIRST REAL EMERGENCY OF THE DAY!!! Not really… Some kid decided to take a nose dive off her desk at school and split her forehead open. Clean wound, stitch, x-ray and observation…. Same basic drill every time. Boring.
  • 2.13: Yolanda’s son’s GF comes in with what turns out to be her baby sister and not her daughter who fell off her bike. This girl (the GF not the patient) is dressed like she’s looking to get laid.. and has the body to pull it off which makes me a bit uncomfortable, especially since she’s being all flirty in front of her BF’s mom. It makes me feel even worse when I find out she just turned 18 like a week before. Her baby sister does not have a fracture. I prescribe something for the pain/inflammation .
  • 2.45: After checking up on some more patients on the floor I go back to the nurse’s station to hijack their mac and go on chat. Flirty nurse is being flirty again… So I pretend not to notice and continue to chat away.
  • 3.50: I’ve gone through about 9 patients in the ER so far…. Time for lunch! Yolanda made me a special treat since I was so good with the little girl. I love Yolanda… she’s the sweetest old lady on earth. Tell her I’ll be taking some time off. She got a little misty.
  • 5.00: Get a call from other boss. We’re trying a new stem cell procedure and participating in a clinical trial… wants me to check in after work. Excited!
  • 6.45: Got called down to admin. It seems they have a check for me from one of the insurance companies and they neglected to tell me about it. Awesome day so far.
  • 7.35: Have to finish my charts…. Have 3 patients waiting in the ER… Have to do 2 histories… all before 8.00!!!! I start to mobilize the nurses. Run down to the ER and take care of business…. Finish histories and start my charts @ 8. Next shift Doc is late…
  • 8.25: done with charts. Relief is here. She offers to take my patient files to the insurance company for me on Saturday. Call The missus to come pick me up.
  • 9.15: in the car with my woman she says the words I’ve been waiting to hear her say “Let’s go to Star Wars in Concert” I LOVE THIS WOMAN.
  • 10.30: had dinner. Had some wine. Time for fluther! Where the hell is Jane? Need to talk to her as usual.
  • 12.05: that’s it. Too tired to continue. Take Bruno out one last time and then set the off-timer on tv. It’s been quite a day. Off to bed.

IBERnineD: A Day in the Life

  • 8.30am: My Alarm goes off, and I hit snooze.
  • 9.00am: My Alarm goes off, and I hit snooze.
  • 10.20am: Finally get out of bed, running late!
  • 10.45am: Miss the bus.
  • 11.16am: Finally get to my class 16 minutes late. Watch the rest of Young Frankenstein.
  • 12.00pm: Walk with Bobby to the library, so I can study for Physics
  • 2.00pm: After chatting on Fluther and “studying” head downtown to take Physics test.
  • 4.00pm: World History Class, learn a LOT about katanas “Those things will fuck a mother up!”, remember why I love my teacher.
  • 5.15pm: Get a call from the roomie (Kelly) about donating blood and how I was supposed to meet her there. Demand the bus stop and jump off.
  • 5.40pm: Lie to the Red Cross about why I’m not donating blood, (“Oh I just got a tattoo I can’t!) when really it’s because when I give blood I pass out and wake up screaming. It’s a bad habit.
  • 6.30pm: Finish eating free pizza while Kelly recuperates, realize she told the nurses the real reason I wasn’t donating, we get odd stares while we walk out.
  • 7.30pm: Start Laundry and watch the WVU vs. Washington game (ELITE 8!) while flipping back and forth between that and Grey’s Anatomy Woot!
  • 11.00pm: Discuss people we know with the roommate, while periodically interwebbing. Decide we need to make zucchini pancakes.
  • 12.00am: Try to find Jesus so we can discuss people.
  • 1.00am: Continue my search for my current theme song and cleaning
  • 2.00am: Take a shower, realize half way through all my towels are in the washing machine. Find a collections of shirts and cling them to my body.
  • 3.00am: Realize it’s freaking 3am and go to bed pitifully on top of my sheetless bed (that I was supposed to make) and group the damp shirts around and on top of me for warmth.
